During the 2024 Christmas season in Bogotá, under the administration of Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán and the direction of Secretary of Culture Santiago Trujillo Escobar, the city was the scene of a series of cultural shows that not only captured the attention of locals but also attracted numerous visitors. The first of these performances was “Lo sagrado” (The Sacred), which took place at Bogotá’s Catedral Primada. This show, an immersive digital artwork, combined music, opera, video mapping and live dance, reimagining the encounter between the divine and the everyday. Directed by Jimmy Rangel in collaboration with La Maison production from France, “Lo sagrado” offered a multi-sensory experience that evoked sacredness in daily life, inspired by the biblical story of Jacob’s dream. The attendance was massive, with tens of thousands of people enjoying this artistic reinterpretation that used the cathedral’s ceilings as a canvas for the visual display. For its part, "El secreto de Ana Nieves" was presented at the Plaza Cultural La Santamaría, with free daily performances from December 14 to 23. This show, directed by Érika Ortega Cortéz and produced by La Ventana Producciones, told the story of a community leader in a Bogotá neighborhood, focusing on the social fabric and connection with nature. With a capacity of 10,000 people per show and two performances a day, the event brought together more than 80 artists on stage, mixing circus, dance, theater and live music. The public response was overwhelming, with total attendance estimated at more than 180,000 people throughout the performances. Finally, "La fiesta de la vida" (The Party of Life) filled the Plaza de Bolívar with an unforgettable visual and sound experience. This show, a co-creation of León David Cobos, Catalina Giangrandi, Nelson Celis and Francisco Rincón, stood out for its powerful staging with more than 50 artists including actors and musicians, lighting structures and a 24-meter Christmas tree. The event captured the essence of Bogotá, promoting a message of hope and community, and attracted a crowd that exceeded expectations, becoming a benchmark for the Christmas season. These shows not only marked a cultural milestone in the city but also reflected a commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency under the direction of Galán and Trujillo Escobar, demonstrating that it is possible to enjoy cultural traditions responsibly and in harmony with natural resources. The massive attendance at these events underlined the interest of citizens in art and culture, consolidating Bogotá as an epicenter of artistic expressions this Christmas 2024.
